I have two very special reasons to say “Happy Birthday” this month.

First, on May 7, Planet of Eden turns one year old. It is hard to believe that twelve months have passed since I became an independent publisher and launched Talia Sek Publishing with the first in my Planet trilogy. I have spent a lot of time since then marketing Planet of Eden and introducing readers to sci-fi that you do not have to be a diehard sci-fi fan to enjoy.

Sometimes, when I tell people that I wrote a book and they ask me what it is about, I can tell right away that the science fiction genre is not necessarily one of their favorites. But when I explain a little about the main storyline—my elevator speech—they warm up to the idea of giving it a try.

“Did you see the Avatar movies?” I ask. “Yes. Those were cool,” they usually respond. “Well,” I say, “those are considered to be science fiction.” Now, the story of Planet of Eden is quite different from those movies, but stylistically I think if someone likes those, they will probably also like this book. Why? Because it is sci-fi that is also relatable.

In writing Eden, I set out to create a science fiction story that readers of other genres could also enjoy. How satisfying it is to hear that those who pick up the book find something fun and surprising in it. I hope that will be the case for you as well, and that you will tell me how you liked it.

Another Birthday

My second “Happy Birthday” goes out to a very special little girl who turns four years old on May 7. Happy Birthday, Sophia! I hope your day is filled with lots of love. Reach for the stars, Twinkle Toes!

Perdition Project Update

The work continues to market Eden while also writing Planet of Perdition. To get some momentum going and to ensure that I do not lose the flow of this huge story, I am reading Eden again—and enjoying it!

I have always said that I am my own worst critic. Can you relate? No matter what it is—art, building something, doing a craft, cooking, landscaping—you will criticize yourself more harshly than anyone else. So, it stands to reason that if you really like what you have done, it must be pretty darn good! Well, that is how I feel about Planet of Eden, and I will not apologize for it because I can be quite hard on myself and my writing. I know it is a good book, and I know that Planet of Perdition will be just as enjoyable.

Thank you, fellow Edenites, for continuing this journey with me. I’m not writing these books for myself; I’m writing them to share with you! Keep being awesome!
